There is a timeless corner of the world where history, nature, scents and colors meld together: it is Borghetto di Valeggio sul Mincio, an ancient village of windmills, overlooking the waters of the Mincio River, between Verona and Mantua. Gian Galeazzo Visconti decided to have it built in the 1400s at the feet of Ponte Visconteo, a 650-m bridge along which tables are set every year in June to celebrate the "Feast of the Knot of Love", that is, the famous tortellini with their unmistakable fine dough, strictly handmade. The Scaligero Castle overlooks the Mincio Valley, and can be seen together with its imposing towers even from the nearby Sigurtà Park, where from certain angles it seems to be framed by the 30,000 roses growing all along the path. The history of Borghetto (a toponym of Lombard origin which means "fortified settlement") is that of a borderland sought after by seigneuries and armies like: the Gonzagas, the Scaligeris, the Viscontis, the Republic of Venice, Austria and France. It was also the setting of battles during the Napoleonic era and the Italian unification, but despite all this, it has never lost its evocative beauty.
